Pipeline Recovery Tools

The SmartLift Internal PRT is equipped with a fail-safe pipeline internal gripping system that mechanically self-lock after setting of the tool. By using an internal lifting tool, there is no need to prepare the pipe end to allow recovery. This shortens the recovery time and facilitates quick repairs.

Divers or ROV activates the SmartLift Internal PRTs. With multiple redundant hydraulic systems, unsetting of a SmartLift Internal PRT is guaranteed. The SmartLift Internal PRT system comes approved and certified by Det Norske Veritas (DNV).

TDW Offshore Services can provide SmartLift Internal PRTs in all pipe sizes. The tools can be made to include sealing functions enabling the tool to facilitate hydro testing and flushing operations.

In some scenarios a PRT that attaches to the outside of the pipeline is necessary. For example when the pipe size is too small for a SmartLift Internal PRT, or when large bore flushing ports are required.

For these occasions, TDW Offshore Services manufactures the Smart-Lift External PRT. Basically an inverted Internal PRT, it grips into the external pipe wall using fail-safe self-locking steel slips. Functionality is as for the SmartLift Internal PRT.

A third category of PRTs is the Eye Lifting PRT. This tool operates on a principle where two holes are drilled through the pipe-wall on opposite sides of the pipe, utilizing an ROV operated radial pipe cutter.

Subsequent to the drilling a lifting bolt is inserted through the holes and the pipe is recovered to surface by means of a lifting clamp, pictured above. Both stainless steel and heavy-duty thermal insulation materials have been dealt with in the past.

The Eye lifting PRT is certified and approved by DNV.
